'Easy Does It' at Orbit Room with Machine DJs

Friday night should be a time to do as you please. At the Orbit Room you can do just that. Chil Chicago music is spun by Machine DJs, drinks can be had on the cheap and the warm weather makes the back deck ideal. Neo-Futurists present Fake Lake (preview)

The Neo-Futurists kick off their 2008-09 season with Fake Lake, a play inspired by the man-made Lake Powell in the middle of the Utah desert. Fake Lake is in previews tonight, and opens Saturday evening. The show will be performed at the Welles Park swimming pool (2333 W. Sunnyside). Showtimes are at 8:00, and tickets are $15, $10 for students/seniors, and pay-what-you-can on Thursday nights. Matthew Dear @ Smart Bar

The sultry-yet-funky Detroit techno producer, DJ, and crooner Matthew Dear returns to the Windy City this evening to hit the decks for a headlining, party-moving set at Smart Bar. Taking turns at the helm on the earlier slots that evening are DJs Daniel Mnookin and Brian Ffar. Tickets are $10 before midnight, $12 after. Door open at 10 PM. 3730 N. Clark. Air & Water Show

The 50th annual Chicago Air & Water Show kicks off today and spends the weekend buzzing your house and scaring your pets. It's free in Lincoln Park, centered on North Avenue Beach. Today at 3pm, listen to Florence Henderson (yes, of "The Brady Bunch") sing the national anthem, and watch Bill Murray parachute from a plane. At 5pm, Gary Sinise and the Lt. Dan Band perform at the North Ave. Boathouse.
