Chicago Flower & Garden Show @ Navy Pier

This week-long exhibition, designed to help "aspiring gardeners take it up a notch," includes workshops on container gardening, a marketplace selling garden and green-related products, "garden gourmet" showcasing the culinary talents of both local and national chefs, and a horticulture competition. Hours are 10am-8pm (6pm on Sunday) at Navy Pier, 600 E. Grand Ave., in Festival Halls A and B. Admission is $14 on weekends, $12 on weekdays. El Circo Cheapo @ Aloft Loft

The local aerial circus center Aloft Loft (2041 W Carroll #306) is holding its monthly El Circo Cheapo, an event they call "the poor man's Cirque du Soleil, with world class acrobats, jugglers, puppeteers, aerialists, clowns, side show freaks and more". There are two shows, one at 7pm and one at 10pm; tickets are $10 or less (depending on how many pull-ups you can do) and can be purchased in advance here.

CIMMFest: Largo Screening

Documentary concert film Largo, a tribute to the LA club, features performances by Andrew Bird, Elliott Smith, Flight of the Conchords, Fiona Apple, and Sarah Silverman shot in stunning black and white. The film screens tonight as part of the Chicago International Movies and Music Festival. The screening takes place at St. Paul's Cultural Center, 2215 W North Ave, at 9pm. Chicago International Movie and Music Festival After Party @ Double Door

Dex Romweber Duo, The Lonesome Organist (performing a live score to silent film), Andre Williams, and The Old Ceremony celebrate the Chicago International Movie and Music Festival this weekend at Double Door. The show starts at 9pm, and tickets are $12 or $9 with a CIMMF badge. Read more in Transmission.

World Kitchen Learning Series: In a Stew

If you want to learn how to make a quality stew, take yourself over to the the "In a Stew" cooking class today from 11am-2pm pm at the Gallery 37 Center for the Arts, 66 E. Randolph Street. This class is offered through the City of Chicago's World Kitchen learning series. Admission is $30 and pre-registration is required.

Chiditerod

The Chiditerod, an annual shopping cart race through Ukrainian Village and surrounding neighborhoods, takes place today starting at 12:30pm at the corner of Wolcott and Hubbard streets. It's free to watch; the spectator page has good info on where to take in the action.

5th Annual Sock Monkey Madness Festival

The Sock Monkey Madness Festival returns as a unique celebration of Rockford, Illinois' past by highlighting its knitting industry and boom of the stuffed sock toy which continues as a large part of America's pop culture. 10:30am - 4pm, continues through Sunday.
