Non-profit fashion charity organization Fabulosity Avec Amour hosts "Couture for Autism" on Sunday May 31st at the Matteson Holiday Inn Hotel (500 Holiday Plaza Drive; 708-747-3500). The event will benefit Autism Speaks and feature live entertainment, cocktails, and hors d'oeuvres from 4 to 6 p.m. and a fashion show from 6 to 7 p.m. Tickets are $35 and can be bought at Fabulosity Avec Amour's website.
Chicago Avenue Salon (1941 W. Chicago Ave; 773-276-1411) and SoKo Fashion (1925 W. Chicago Ave.; 773-592-1089) join forces on May 31st to bring us "Fashion Rocks," a free live music fashion show. The doors of Darkroom (2210 W. Chicago Ave.; 773-276-1411) will open at 8 p.m. and the show begins at 10 p.m. Guests will receive door prizes as well as discounts at Chicago Avenue Salon when they bring in a "Fashion Rocks" flyer from June 1st through 15th.
Chicago Tap Theatre presents Little Dead Riding Hood, a "Fairy Tale Tap Dance Opera" that explores what happens when fairy tale characters discover themselves after tiring of acting out the same old stories. The Shedd Aquarium, along with Purple Asparagus, is offering a sustainable-sushi making class for adults and children from 4pm to 6pm in the Lobster Lab. Families can prepare rolls using sustainable fish and talk with aquarium experts about the ways different fish are caught or farmed. The class is $20 for adults and $5 per child. Brides Magazine teaches couples the right moves so that their first dance won't be their last. Brides and grooms scheduled to marry between May 1, 2009 and May 1, 2010 are eligible to attend. Chicago Endurance Sports is running a series of three clinics on basic bicycling skills. The first one is this morning from 10am-12pm at the Foster Avenue Beach House, at Lake Shore Drive & Foster Ave. It covers a pre-ride bike check, rules of the road, and group cycling etiquette. After the class, enjoy a group ride. Bring your bike, a helmet, some water, and wear comfortable clothes. The Do-Division Street Festival takes over Division from Ashland to Leavitt on Saturday and Sunday from 12 to 10pm. Summer officially arrives this weekend with the Do Division Street Festival.
