REI tempts your international tastebuds with a series of classes designed to show you a country in both pictures and food. The night kicks off at the store (1466 N. Halsted) at 6:30pm with a slide show by travelers from Hostelling International Chicago. Then you'll walk over to the new Whole Foods (1550 N. Kingsbury) for samples of Italian cuisine prepared by chef Frank Rossi of Racconto Foods. Future classes in the series will discuss India and Israel. If you like jazz, or you just like being outside on a Chicago summer afternoon, then make your way to the Museum of Contemporary Art for "Tuesdays on the Terrace." Have a seat by the band on the terrace, or bring a blanket and some friends to the lawn and take in the sounds of some of the city's most talented jazz musicians. Tonight's artist is Robert Irving III. 220 East Chicago Ave. 5:30pm-8pm. Free.
Environment Illinois will present "The High Cost of Fossil Fuels: Why America Can't Afford to Depend on Dirty Energy" today, a new analysis of data regarding Illinois's current and projected spending on fossil fuels. 9am, John R. Thompson Center (100 W. Randolph St.), 15th Floor, The Blue Room.
