World Kitchen Learning Series: Now You're Cooking

The "Now You're Cooking" class, part of the city's World Kitchen learning series, will get you cooking like the professionals. This is part of a four-class series that will continue on October 15 and 22. Class runs 6-8pm at the Gallery 37 Center for Arts at 66 East Randolph, admission is $30 ($100 for all four), and registration is required.

Forkable Launch Party @ Archie's Tavern

Forkable blog redesign launch party, Thursday, October 8 from 7 pm to 10 pm at Archie's Tavern (2600 W. Iowa). $2 whiskey and beer and free food made by the website author.

Theater Oobleck @ The Chopin

The critically incendiary, surreal-existentialist curiosity of the 2009 Rhinoceros Theater Festival returns as musical quintet The Elvisbride Band. They're playing with BoyGirlBoyGirl as part of Cabaret Oobleck, a showcase of the theater company's regulars, irregulars and friends. Hosted by BoyGirlBoyGirl's David Kodeski, the show starts at 7:30pm in the downstairs lounge of The Chopin Theater, 1543 W. Division. North Shore Cocktail Dinner @ OTOM

Learn about pairing cocktails and food at OTOM (951 W. Fulton Market). Enjoy a three-course dinner, cocktails by North Shore Distillery, and conversation by Chef Thomas Elliott Bowman and representatives from North Shore. The dinner starts at 7pm, and cost is $50, plus tax and tip. RSVP no later than Monday, October 5th by calling (312) 491-5804.

Bad Veins/The Subjects @ Empty Bottle

Bad Veins, whose single "Gold and Warm" has been popping up on indie radio stations, will bring some powerful pop rock hooks to the Empty Bottle tonight. (Check out how much we loved them when they were in Chicago last month.) Joining them will be The Subjects, from Brooklyn, with clap-along indie pop. Tickets are $3 in advance, or $8 at the door. 1035 N. Western. 21+

Riot Fest: Wax @ Liars Club

Wax may have gotten overshadowed by Weezer in the 90's, but now this pop punk band from California is playing again for the first time in 14 years! This is a show not to miss. 21+, doors open at 8pm.
