Workshop: Golden Age of American Song @ Old Town School

The Old Town School of Folk Music presents another of their regular series of one-day workshops for music and dance students. Today's workshop is titled "Golden Age of American Song," and instructor Barbara Silverman will show students the composition of songs from the Tin Pan Alley and sing/big band eras. The workshop begins this afternoon at 2pm in the school's main building at 4544 N. Lincoln Avenue. Registration is $20 and is available either by calling the school at (773) 728-6000 or by visiting the Old Town School Website.

Robert Bruce Tague Exhibit @ Scout

This exhibition is Scout and Corbett vs. Dempsey Gallery's first joint effort, a gathering of watercolors by the important Chicago artist and architect Robert Bruce Tague. In the intimate Scout storefront, more than a dozen of Tague's watercolors, dating from the 1930s to the 1970s, will be on display. (From press release:) "Primarily landscapes, some naturally contain traces of the architectural, while others hint at the distinctly American modernist watercolor tradition of John Marin. All are quite subtle, but spectacularly complex in color and composition." This exhibition opens with a quiet wine reception at Scout (5221 N. Clark) this afternoon, starting at 2pm. Contact the gallery at (773) 275-5700 for more information, or visit their website.
