Facets Night School: Theodora Goes Wild

Facets Cinematheque presents Facets Night School, a weekly series of midnight screenings paired up with lectures, discussions, and much more. Tonight's screening: a classic screwball comedy from 1936, Theodora Goes Wild. Facets Night School starts tonight at midnight, and tickets are $5 (advance tickets available through Ticketweb). Eyehategod, Nachtmystium, Plague Bringer, Strong Intention, Weekend Nachos @ Empty Bottle

The Empty Bottle hosts two consecutive nights of nasty sludge rock, blackened metal, and other atrocities, headlined both nights by Louisiana legends Eyehategod, now "celebrating" their 22nd year of existence, and Nachtmystium, a local unit that has moved from lockstep Black Metal (in caps) to a new prototype model encompassing psychedelic and improvisational musical forces. Plague Bringer joins the band at the last minute, filling in for no-showers Anal Cunt; Strong Intention and Weekend Nachos open. 8 p.m., $20 in advance, $25 at the door. 1035 N. Taste of the Neighborhoods Tour

The City hosts a tour today of the eats representing selected neighborhoods around Chicago--Greek on Halsted, Italian on Taylor, South side BBQ, Middle Eastern in Albany Park--and you can join them! The Taste of the Neighborhoods tour series meets monthly; destinations are announced a few weeks before the tour, so contact the City to find out what's on the menu for today.

Fork and the Road City Sprouts! Tour

Join Fork and the Road in collaboration with Chicago Public Radio (WBEZ) on this bicycle tour celebrating edible gardens. Discover how culinary students at Kendall College make use of the Goose Island campus' gardens and sample some of the bounty. Visit Ukrainian Village's A Tavola and hear from Chef Daniel Bocik about his garden while enjoying seasonal Italian dishes. Finally, visit Growing Home's Wood Street Urban Farm as part of Chicago Public Radio Presents' "Growing a Green, Healthy Neighborhood" event. The 20-mile tour runs from 10:00am to 5:30pm, starting at Kendall College, 900 N. North Branch St. Cost is $65 per person and includes food at all stops and admission to the WBEZ event. International Summer Screenings @ Chicago Cultural Center

The Chicago Cultural Center (in conjunction with Cinema/Chicago) continues its International Summer Screenings Program with Bye, Bye GDR! To Liberty via Warsaw, a retelling of the 1989 escape of 6,000 Germans from East Germany through Warsaw to West Germany. Catch the film at 2 p.m. Chicago Cultural Center: 78 E. Grant Park Orchestra @ Millennium Park

Art-About in West Town

From 4pm to 10pm today, Art Adventure! Events is hosting a free Art-About throughout the West Town neighborhood. Explore 25 venues to see new artwork, hear live music, drink wine, and do even more exotic activities, like participating in a tai chi or silk screening demonstration. The Scotland Yard Gospel Choir @ Subterranean

Looking After Louis Sullivan: Photographs, Drawings, and Fragments @ AIC

Running until December 12th, Looking After Louis Sullivan: Photographs, Drawings, and Fragments is on view in Photography Galleries 1 and 2 and Architecture Gallery 24 at the Art Institute of Chicago, 111 South Michigan Avenue. Two-Hour Comedy Hour @ Gallery Cabaret

This week's Two-Hour Comedy Hour will be hosted by Megan Gailey and features comedians Drew Michael, Trey Mowder, Travis Tack and Sam Norton. This free show features a fresh mix of comedians each week. There's no cover for the 21+ show -though a $5 donation is accepted - and it runs from 7-9 pm at Gallery Cabaret, 2020 N. Bill Ayers & Bernardine Dohrn @ Columbia College

As part of the Bronzeville Cultural Festival, Bill Ayers and Bernardine Dohrn will speak on an sign copies of their recent book, Race Course: Against White Supremacy. At Columbia College, 600 South Michigan, Chicago, Room 901 starting at 10:30AM, the talk will focus on the election of our nation's first Black president. With regard to enduring racism, this has brought many Americans to question where we've been, where we are and where we are going in America.

The day before they hit the Taste of Randolph Street Festival on Sunday, June 20th, Califone will play a free in-store performance at new Logan Square record store Saki on Saturday afternoon. Free Independent Publishing Workshops @ Quimby's

Today is the Learnapalooza festival held at various spots around Wicker Park from 10am to 5pm. The event is a community skill exchange chockfull of free workshops, including yoga, cooking, self defense, swing dancing, poker, and more. Complete at-a-glance schedule of events here.
