Film in the Park

Gather your blankets, snacks, family and friends because starting June 23rd, Film in the Park is back with more movies for your enjoyment. Each week, brings you a new movie from all over Latin American and Mexico to parks all over Chicago. This is a free event and films will be shown rain or shine. Alexander Calder and Contemporary Art: Form, Balance, Joy @ MCA

At noon at the MCA, 220 East Chicago Ave Curator Lynne Warren leads a tour of her exhibition, Alexander Calder and Contemporary Art: Form, Balance, Joy. The exhibition is the first to assess Calder's influence on the new generation of contemporary sculptors with the presentation of Calder's iconic works and sculptures by contemporary artists who have been directly influenced by Calder like Martin Boyce, Nathan Carter, Abraham Cruzvillegas, Aaron Curry, Kristi Lippire, Jason Meadows, and Jason Middlebrook.

Janet Kuypers @ The Cafe

Writer/poet (among other things) Janet Kuypers will be featured at The Cafe's (5115 N. Lincoln) open mic night, starting at 8:30pm. Admission is $2, and there's a donation for the feature.

Julia Huff @ MCA's Tuesday's on the Terrace

Starting June 1, every Tuesday the Museum of Contemporary Art presents free live jazz concerts from some of the city's most legendary and innovative musicians. Tonight's performance features Julia Huff. Grab some friends and a blanket for a relaxing evening on the garden lawn, or make a night of it with a reservation at Puck's. Snacks and beverages, including wine and seasonal cocktails are available for purchase. 5:30-8pm. 220 E. Chicago Ave. Free.

New Icon @ LUMA

A public walk-through with the curator of the art exhibition New Icon is tonight at 6pm at LUMA, 820 N. Michigan Avenue. New Icon features Chicago-based contemporary artists working in sculpture, painting, drawing, and video. The artists include Zachary Buchner, Pamela Fraser, Carrie Gundersdorf, Dan Gunn, Diana Guerrero-MaciĆ”, Brennan McGaffey, William J. O'Brien, Sze Lin Pang, and Kevin Wolff, exploring iconography in contemporary society, and employing a broad interpretation of the spiritual. Exhibition will be on view from June 5 through August 1. Sponsored by Chicago's Contemporary Arts Council (CAC).

Ox-Bow Centennial: Contemporary Art @ Roots & Culture

Come out tonight from 6pm to 9pm to Roots & Culture, 1034 N Milwaukee Ave. The opening reception of Ox-Bow Centennial: Contemporary Art celebrates the centennial year of Ox-Bow, school of art and artists' residency. For the past 100 years, Ox-Bow has provided an immersive experience as an oasis for the creative community. The artists featured in this exhibition are Mike Andrews, Jonah Groeneboer, Shara Hughes, George Liebert, Anna Mayer, Aspen Mays, Carmen Price, Elizabeth Rupprecht, Melanie Schiff, Andrew Winship, and Nate Wolf.
