CHIRP Night @ The Whistler

In Tall Buildings and Helen Money play at The Whistler tonight (2421 N. Milwaukee). Raffle tickets will be sold throughout the evening to support CHIRP (Chicago Independent Radio Project). Featuring DJ sets from DJ STV SLV (of Hood Internet) & CHIRP DJ Dena Masley. Percentage of bar sales benefit CHIRP. 9:30pm-2am, no cover.

Essay Fiesta @ The Book Cellar

The monthly reading series Essay Fiesta returns to The Book Cellar (4736 N. Lincoln). Tonight's lineup includes: host of The Paper Machete, Christopher Piatt; improviser and puppeteer Kristen Studard; actor and Second Story contributor John Wilson; Impress These Apes producer Paul Luikart; and stand-up comedian John Barry. Juan Maclean DJ Set @ Edible Audible Picnic

Grab your lunch and take it to Pritzker Pavilion at noon for an Edible Audible Picnic. John MacLean, better as the front man of rock band, The Juan MacLean, is an American electronic musician and former guitarist for the indie Dance-punk band Six Finger Satellite, with LCD Sound System founder, James Murphy, who later released MacLean's records on his acclaimed DFA Record label. As a DJ, MacLean sets focus on classic tracks, disco, and house. He recently released the latest addition of the famed "DJ Kicks" series for the Studio K7 label.

Ratchet @ Skylark

The Ratchet Series takes place every Monday at the Skylark in Pilsen, and features some of Chicago's most innovative jazz musicians. Tonight's performance is from Ratchet organizer Nick Mazzarella's Trio with Mazzarella himself on sax. He will be joined by fellow organizer (and founder) Frank Rosaly on drums and Anton Hatwich on drums. Ratchet is always free, but if you like what you hear, be sure to drop a few dollars in the hat as it comes around. 10pm. 2149 S. Halsted. 21+
