Architecture Lecture Series @ Instituto Cervantes

As part of their "Restoring, Regenerating, Rethinking" series, Instituto Cervantes will be hosting the first of three architecture lectures tonight at the Institute's Auditorium (31 W. Ohio St). Through the eyes of renowned Spanish architects, the series explores how the urban landscape of Madrid, Barcelona, and Bilbao has changed dramatically--restoring historic areas, regenerating public spaces and rethinking their futures. Tonight's presentation entitled, "Bilbao's Strategic Evolution: From the Industrial to the Post-Industrial City" will be presented by Ibon Areso in Spanish with simultaneous English translation. The event is free to the public and starts at 6pm.

The Universe in Miniature in Miniature Release Party @ The Hideout

Patrick Somerville's latest, The Universe in Miniature in Miniature, is out now from featherproof Books. And to celebrate, featherproof is hosting a release party at The Hideout (1354 W. Wabansia) tonight from 8 to 11:30pm. Entrance is free, and if you come dressed as your favorite alien, the first 15 aliens will receive a copy of the book! Other fun stuff: featherproof authors Benjamin Nugent and Hannah Pittard will put in an appearance, along with DJ Fabulette. There will also be an alien costume contest, judged by a surprise guest.

Garbage World 4: Garbage Fest

Today through Saturday, Chicago based musicians, visual and performance artists of all ages and variations will present their work for the 4th annual Pilsen extravaganza. Budding young artist Katie Literall will stage her solo debut and Matthew Barny approved Yale alumna Heather Marie Vernon is directing an original performance specifically for Garbage Fest. Alexandra Subak and her Laboratory Dancers are sure to entreat along with body sculpture work from Joseph Ravens and a sound installation from Jeff Kolar is surely not to be missed. Roger Ebert signing @ Old Orchard Shopping Center

Film critic Roger Ebert will be signing all of his books tonight at 7pm at the Old Orchard Shopping Center in Skokie. The event is free and open to the public.

Wines for Turkey @ Cellar Rat
