Take refuge from the drudgery of making the citywide gallery circuit tonight at the Fourth Annual After-Openings Dance Party at Phyllis' Musical Inn. Hosted by artists and local art world mainstays John Phillips and Nevin Tomlinson, the action starts at 9:30pm and rolls on until 2am.
Lincoln Square's 91st annual German-American Festival starts tonight at 6pm at the intersection of Lincoln, Leland and Western. The festival runs through Sunday and features German music, dancing and, of course, beer. Admission is free.
The Post Family presents Public School, a showcase of artwork by the Austin collective by the same name. The show opens tonight at The Family Room, 1821 W Hubbard St. #202, tonight from 6pm to 9pm. Free.
You may have heard that Todd (of Tiki fame) converted his Tiki Transit to run on used fry oil fuel a few months ago, but now he's looking to replenish his stock -- with your help. This Friday swing by Trader Todd's beer garden with your used cooking oil in hand and get a free basket of fries. They'll also have $8.99 all-you-can-eat fish fry and $3 Green Line beer. Todd will be demoing his oil conversion system to the sweet tune of a steel drums from 5pm-8pm, at 3216 North Sheffield Avenue.
The Windy City Wine Festival runs Sept. 9-10 at Buckingham Fountain in Grant Park. Sample wine from more than 30 wineries, snack on food from local restaurants and enjoy the outdoors. The festival runs from 4pm to 10pm today. Tickets are $27 in advance or $35 at the door; designated drivers get in for just $10.
Bloodshot Records gets the gang together to celebrate 17 years of great rock and alt-country tunes. Join them at the Hideout tonight for a lineup including: Waco Brothers, The Scotland Yard Gospel Choir, Danny Black and Nora O'Connor, and Deadstring Brothers (solo). Busy Beaver celebrates the release of its latest Button-O-Matic button set, "Superhero!" with a party at its storefront at 3279 W. Armitage Ave., tonight from 6pm to 9pm. The set features Jeffrey Brown, Lilli Carré, Anders Nilsen, Laura Park, Travis Lampe, Jay Ryan, Shawnimals, Cakespy, Wolfgnards.com, Box Brown, OhNo!Doom, Abbey Hambright, Denise Gibson and Erik Harms.
