Kool Keith plays at Reggies on Sunday, January 22. Kid Static, Phillip Morris, Second City Citizens, Kid Slim, and Dezert Eeeze open. The show's $15, 18+ and starts at 7pm. Reggie's is located at 2105 South State Street.
SmallBar on Division is amping up its brunch offerings for an installment of its popular beer brunch. Each menu item has been created with one of 3 Floyds' more unique brews in mind. New selections include spicy buttermilk fried frog legs, lamb shepherd's pie in black sun gravy and a soft scotched egg over handmade beef sausage and roman gnocci. Cathy Wilkes's new exhibit, I Give You All My Money, opens at The Renaissance Society, a part of the University of Chicago. The exhibit, which was shortlisted for the Turner Prize in 2008, consists of found, symbolic objects, arranged to create a particular narrative and structure. The objects used range from mannequins and baby strollers to dried food and "soiled dishes." The Renaissance Society is located at 5811 S. Ellis. The opening reception is from 4-7 p.m. and Wilkes will speak from 5-6 p.m. Free.
Two With Water reading series starts the new year at Beauty Bar, 1444 W. Chicago Ave., focusing on the resolutions we all attempt so early in the year. Their theme tonight starting at 7pm is "Resolved." Readers include James Kennedy, JW Basilo, Maggie Ritchie, Brandon Will, Mason Johnson and Aubrey Scheffey. No cover, 21+
