Great lineup at Story Club - this month's theme is "Rites of Passage." Tonight's lineup includes 4 open mic slots and 4 featured readers: Essayist Julie Danis, Funny Ha-Ha producer and WBEZ blogger Claire Zulkey, Humor Me podcast producer Nellie Huggins, and Story Challenge contestant Maggie Goodman. She'll tell a story on the audience-assigned topic of: Hedonism. Open mic signup begins at 8, show begins at 8:15 at Uncommon Ground (3800 N. Clark). The Gene Siskel Film Center presents a screening of the 2011 documentary Andrew Bird: Fever Year, documenting the artist's 2009 tour schedule. The Chicago Rarities Orchard Project, which hopes to install an apple orchard in Logan Square, hosts a talk by former Goose Island brewmaster and current Virtue Cider founder Greg Hall at the Haas Park fieldhouse, 2402 N. Washtenaw Ave., tonight at 6pm. Free, but donations accepted.
The Metropia Experience runs June 7-8 at the Atrium Events space, 4325 N. Ravenswood Ave. The festival features an eclectic mix of music and art, crossing many genres. Today's musical lineup includes Dinger, Marina City, Dozens, The Bears of Blue River, R.O.E., Lucky Dutch, Milano, The Pirates, Famous Like You, Take the Day, Santah and J. Crist. Doors open at 2pm. Single-day tickets are $65 ($27 for students), two-day passes are $110, and are available online or at the door. A portion of the proceeds will benefit The Bully Police Squad and WLUW.
