Socialism 2013 Conference

Socialism 2013 runs this weekend, June 27-30, at the Crowne Plaza Hotel & Conference Center - Chicago O'Hare. The four day conference includes dozens of scheduled speakers and discussion sessions, on topics ranging from economics, education, human rights, civil rights, labor, and more. Speakers include the likes of Jeremy Scahill, Glenn Greenwald, and Jesse Sharkey, to name a few.


The Moth GrandSLAM @ Park West

The Moth storytelling series holds its Chicago GrandSLAM tonight at the Park West, 322 W. Armitage Ave. Watch the winners of the last 10 storySLAM events face off with their best stories. Doors open at 6pm, show starts at 8pm. Tickets are $17 online or at the Park West box office. 18+

Anton DiSclafani @ Tribune Tower

Tonight at 7pm, Anton DiSclafani will be at Tribune Tower, 435 N. Michigan Ave., to read from The Yonahlossee Riding Camp For Girls in discussion with the Tribune's Heidi Stevens. Set in 1930, the novel tells the tale of 15-year-old Thea Atwell. Atwell, a recent arrival at an all-girls equestrienne boarding school in the South full of complex social strata, leaves behind a family scandal in Florida that is slowly unspooled throughout the narrative. Tickets are $15.

Reader's Best of Chicago Party @ Metro

The Reader celebrates its Best of Chicago awards with a party tonight at 9pm at the Metro, 3730 N. Clark St. Twin Peaks performs. Tickets are $12. 18+
