The annual One of a Kind Show and Sale runs Thursday through Sunday at the Merchandise Mart, 8th floor. More than 600 juried artists, craftspeople and designers from across North America are showcasing their imaginative, handmade creations, for sale at a wide range of price points. Tickets are $12 and can be purchased online. A portion of all ticket sales will benefit Ann & Robert H. Lurie Children's Hospital. For more information, see the website.
Crime novelist Jeffrey Siger reads and signs his latest book, Mykonos After Midnight, tonight at from 6:30 to 8pm at the National Hellenic Museum, 333 S. Halsted St. Read our preview in Book Club. The event is free with museum admission ($10 for adults, $8 for seniors; faculty, students and museum members are free), and light refreshments will be served. Make a reservation here.
The Drawing Room (937 N Rush St) hosts a whiskey tasting tonight at 7:00 to celebrate the 80th anniversary of Repeal Day. Four small batch whiskeys from Compass Box are accompanied by four small plates prepared by Tommy Sheean. The cost is $45 per person; reservations required by phone at (312) 266-2694.
Tonight at the Galway Arms, 2442 N. Clark St., the Gumbo Fiction Salonwelcomes featured guest Deb R. Lewis. There is also an open mic; if you're interested in reading, sign up at the door before the 7pm start. This is a 17+ show, with a $2 admission for students and $4 for non-students.
Dark Matter Coffee and Bombshell Skateboards present Hash & Thrash, a party celebrating the release of new custom skate decks, tonight at Star Lounge, 2521 W. Chicago Ave., from 7 to 11pm tonight. Check out the decks and other limited edition gear, enjoy free adult beverages (if you're over 21) and food, and listen to music spun by DJ PPBE. Free.
Story Club is back at the Holiday Club, 4000 N. Sheridan Rd, tonight at 8pm. The theme is "holidays," and featured performers include writer Jen Bosworth, comedian Kelsie Huff and series regular, puppet Chad the Bird. There is an open mic to begin the show, with sign-up beginning at 7:30pm. $10 suggested cover. 21+
