One of a Kind Show and Sale @ Merchandise Mart
The annual One of a Kind Show and Sale runs Thursday through Sunday at the Merchandise Mart, 8th floor. More than 600 juried artists, craftspeople and designers from across North America are showcasing their imaginative, handmade creations, for sale at a wide range of price points. Tickets are $12 and can be purchased online. A portion of all ticket sales will benefit Ann & Robert H. Lurie Children's Hospital. For more information, see the website.
Savor the Season @ The Grid
The Grid (351 W Hubbard St) launches its new brunch menu today with the food and shopping event "Savor the Season" from 10 a.m.-2 p.m. Checkout spa services and peruse designers (like Haberdash Low Key Sharp, Veruca Salt, and Sir and Madame) in the Grid Lounge; venture to the upstairs restaurant for the Build-Your-Own Mimosa (or Blood Mary) Bar and for brunch items like stuffed French toast and Eggs in Purgatory. The cost is $15 for one brunch entree and one breakfast cocktail or $25 for one entree and unlimited breakfast cocktails.
Dose Market @ 1st Ward
Dose Market brings together gourmet food purveyors, artists and other artisans together for its weekly "curated marketplace" in the 1st Ward bar at Chop Shop, 2033 N. Milwaukee Ave., from 10am to 4pm. Free.
Holiday Shop Hop on Grand
On December 7th and 8th, the local home design boutiques, furniture and accessory-makers, and vintage and antique collectors along the Grand Avenue Design District (on Grand between Ashland and Western) offer holiday discounts, free treats, carols, and crafts. Shop from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m.
Renegade Holiday Craft Fair
The Renegade Holiday Craft Fair runs Saturday and today from 11am to 6pm in the Pulaski Park Fieldhouse, 1419 W. Blackhawk St. Shop for handmade gifts from more than 150 artists and crafters. Admission is free.
Do-Division Holiday
Up to 35 shops and boutiques, salons and restaurants along Division between Ashland and Leavitt are participating in this year's Do-Division Holiday. From 11 a.m.-6 p.m. this December 7th-8th, there'll be events and kids activities like (wooden) Snowman and wreath-making, carolers and live music. Designated food areas are serving hot cocoa, hot toddies, mulled wine, and more. There's free wine and holiday bites sampling at select shops and a dog adoption event. Jolly Trolleys will be available to transport shoppers from Michigan to Division, and they're serving drinks too.
Pastry Chicago's Gingerbread House Contest @ Drake Hotel
Pastry Chicago holds its 8th annual Gingerbread House Contest at the Drake Hotel (140 E. Walton) today from 2-4pm. While the entries are judged, enjoy cooking demonstrations, tastings of holiday treats, and of course, watch the winner be crowned.
Plan 9 Burlesque @ Public House Theatre
Plan 9 Burlesque presents a "best-of" show this evening at 6:00pm at Public House Theatre (3914 N. Clark), featuring some of their favorite burlesque routines from 2013. Tickets are available through the Public House Website.
That's All She Wrote @ Swim Cafe
The live lit series That's All She Wrote, co-hosted by JH Palmer and Angela Benander, is back at Swim Cafe, 1357 W. Chicago Ave. In addition to stories from co-producers J.H. and Angela, the lineup includes: Whit Nelson, Wendy McClure, Jen Bosworth, and Rebecca Keller. Doors open at 7:30pm, show starts at 8pm. Woman Power Holiday Show @ Schubas
The second annual Woman Power Holiday Show is at Schubas, 3159 N. Southport Ave., tonight, featuring Liza Day with Diana & the Dishes and Lady Laura. Doors open at 8pm. Tickets are $12 in advance, $15 at the door. Proceeds benefit Deborah's Place. 21+
