Ishmael Beah @ Harold Washington Library Center
In the intro to new novel Radiance of Tomorrow, Beah mentions being inspired by his homeland's oral tradition--making the public reading a natural form for him. He'll talk about the book this evening at 6pm at the Harold Washington Library Center's Cindy Pritzker Auditorium, 400 S. State. Admission is free, and Beah will stick around to sign books afterward.
Write Club @ Hideout
The Hideout presents the monthly literary bout known as Write Club. Overlord Ian Belknap pits author vs. author, battling it out for bragging writes (and donations to their favored charities). Story Club @ Co-Prosperity Sphere
Story Club South Side is back at the Co-Prosperity Sphere, 3219 S. Morgan St., tonight at 7:30pm with a "timing is everything" theme -- each storyteller will share a story in anything but chronological order. The evening will feature stories by Melinda McIntire, Lily Be and Lauren Sivak. Free.
Year in Review @ Park West
WBEZ reporters poets, comedians and storytellers are taking a stroll down memory lane tonight at 8pm at Park West, 322 W. Armitage Ave. The show will go month by month through 2013, relaying stories, news and events that changed Chicago over the year. Tickets are $10 for students, $18 for members and $25 for general admission.
