Chicago Polar Plunge @ North Avenue Beach
The 14th annual Chicago Polar Plunge will take place today at 10 a.m. at North Avenue Beach. The money raised by participants supports the Chicago Special Olympics, but non-participants can still support those participating in the excitement as thousands plunge into Lake Michigan. This year, Tonight Show host Jimmy Fallon has accepted Mayor Rahm Emanuel's challenge to participate in the plunge.
Golden Gala @ Logan Theatre
No Small Plans Productions and South Social & Home present the Golden Gala, an Oscars viewing party, tonight at 5pm at the Logan Theatre, 2646 N. Milwaukee Ave. Dress up for the red carpet and cocktail party, then head into the theater to watch the Oscars live. $25 tickets include hors d'oeuvres, one cocktail and raffle tickets. 21+
Oscar Viewing Party @ The Underground
Heartland Alliance is hosting one of its Vital Nights tonight as an Oscar viewing party at The Underground, 56 W. Illinois St., beginning at 6pm. Tickets are $50 and attire is "festive cocktail and creative black tie."
Perfect Day: Lou Reed Birthday & Tribute Show @ Empty Bottle
A tribute to Lou Reed, founding member and leader of Velvet Underground who died in October, will commence tonight at 7pm at Empty Bottle, 1035 N. Western Ave. Tickets are $10 and the proceeds will benefit Lurie Children's Hospital.
Chandeliers @ Hideout
Experimental rockers Chandeliers play the Hideout, 1354 W. Wabansia Ave., tonight with Yip Deceiver and Golden Birthday. Doors open at 7pm, show's at 8pm. Tickets are $8 online or at the door. 21+
