Volunteer chefs serve up soup tonight from 5:30-8pm at the Hideout (1354 W. Wabansia) at this weekly benefit for food pantries/hunger relief organizations in the area (a different one is selected each week). Show up, eat, and donate what you can. Free.
The Chicago Latino Film Festival runs April 4-17. Films primarily screen at the AMC River East 21, 322 E. Illinois St., as well as the Gene Siskel Film Center, 164 N. State St.; see the full schedule for showtimes and locations. A special screening of Over the Waves: A Story of Flamenco in the U.S. takes place at Instituto Cervantes, 31 W. Ohio St., tonight at 6pm; the $20 ticket includes tapas and wine.
Schubas, 3159 N. Southport Ave., is 25 years old, and owners Mike and Chris Schuba are celebrating with a party tonight at 6pm, rolling back prices on food to 1989 levels -- including a Goose Island collaboration "Schubas 25 Ale" for $2. Free, 21+
The Julie Ruin and Screaming Females rock out at Lincoln Hall, 2424 N. Bell Ave. Tickets are $16 in advance, $18 at the door. All ages. Doors open at 7pm.
The ninth annual Black Playwrights Festival runs April 8-13 at the Black Ensemble Theatre, 4450 N. Clark St. Each night showcases a different playwright; tonight features M.
