Chicago Craft Beer Week Begins

Beer gets the spotlight over this nine day-long series of events all over the city and suburbs. Special tastings, takeovers, collaboration/paired meals (and more meals) await you. If you love beer, this is your Olympics; plan responsibly!

Chicago Critics Film Festival

The Chicago Critics Film Festival returns for its second year at the Music Box Theatre, 3733 N. Southport Ave., May 9-15. Tonight's schedule is below. Tickets are $12-15 per screening, or $75 for a weekday pass, $100 for a weekend pass or $150 for a full festival pass.

- 4:45pm: I Put A Hit On You
- 6:30pm: Obvious Child
- 8:30pm: Animals (w/director Colin Schiffli and star/writer David Dastmalchian Q&A)

Guild Literary Complex: Reveal 25

The Guild Literary Complex celebrates its 25th anniversary tonight with Reveal 25, a party at Victory Gardens Biograph Theater, 2433 N. Lincoln Ave., from 6:30 to 11pm. Enjoy an open bar, plus stories and performances by Michael Warr, Julie Parson Nesbitt, Ellen Placey Wadey, Kimberly Dixon-Mays and John Rich. The Guild will also officially present its 25 Writers to Watch list. Tickets are $75 in advance, $85 at the door; $20 student tickets are available online only.

Matrimony & The Damn Choir @ Space

Matrimony and The Damn Choir share the bill tonight at Space, 1245 Chicago Ave. in Evanston. Tickets are $10 in advance or at the door. Doors open at 7pm.

Suzanne Vega @ Old Town School

Suzanne Vega plays two shows at the Old Town School of Folk Music, 4544 N. Lincoln Ave., tonight at 7 and 10pm. Ari Hest opens. Tickets are $45.

Hozac Blackout Fest @ Empty Bottle

Hozac Records hosts its annual Blackout Fest at the Empty Bottle, 1035 N. Western Ave., May 15-17. Tonight is the Blackout Art Show, displaying works by nine musically connected artists, along with performances by Counter Intuits, Nones and Toupee. Tickets for tonight's show are $10 online or at the door, or get a three-day pass for $55. Read our preview in Transmission. Doors open at 9pm. 21+
