The inaugural Riverwest Music Festival runs July 4-6 along the North Branch of the Chicago River, 1177-1111 N. Elston Ave. (from Estate Ultra-Bar south). The EDM festival features artists on three stages, culminating tonight with headliners Adrian Lux, Loco Dice and VisionQuest. Tickets are $70 per day or $170 for a three-day pass. The festival runs from 11am to midnight today.
The International Festival of Life runs July 3-6 in Union Park, 1501 W. Randolph St. Dozens of acts perform reggae, mambo, R&B, salsa, gospel, EDM and more on three stages. Featured acts today include the Manhattans, Maggie Brown and reggae stars Third World. Tickets are $15 in advance, $20 at the gate. The festival runs from noon to 10pm today. All ages.
FitzGerald's, 6615 W. Roosevelt Rd. in Berwyn, hosts its 33rd annual American Music Festival July 2-5. More than a dozen acts play today -- which doubles as Bloodshot Records' 20th anniversary celebration -- including Shemekia Copeland, Robbie Fulks, Bottle Rockets and Alejandro Escovedo; see the full schedule for details. Tickets are $30 in advance online, $35 at the door; kids under 12 get in for $5, and there's a $25 early bird discount if you arrive in the first hour. Four-day passes are $100. Doors open at 1pm today.
The Gene Siskel Film Center presents a program of cartoons by unconventional animator and Academy Award winner John Hubley. Navy Pier's fireworks are pretty good all summer, but they're particularly great on the Fourth. The show starts at 9:30pm, and can be seen from vantage points all along the lake shore, from Oak Street Beach to the Adler Planetarium. Free.
