Taste of Chicago Begins

It's not the overstuffed event it used to be, but Taste of Chicago, which begins today at Grant Park (weekdays 11am-9pm, weekends 10am-9pm; through July 13th) brings a range of city eats and big-name entertainment (Janelle Monae, Nickel Creek, Aloe Blacc, that Jeff Tweedy guy) together for some classic summertime entertainment. Admission is free, but food and premium concert seating is extra.

Hideout Veggie Bingo @ The Hideout

It's time again for Hideout Veggie Bingo at The Hideout, 1354 W. Wabansia Ave. Get there by 5:30pm for bingo games that run until 8pm. Cards are $4 each, or 3 for $10, and this month's proceeds will benefit El Paseo in Pilsen. There's a grand prize of fresh produce from Irv and Shelly's Fresh Picks and a cornucopia of other prizes drawn from local artisanal food producers, farmers, and gardeners. Testimony Art Opening @ Logan Center for the Arts

The Reva and David Logan Center for the Arts, located in Hyde Park has a new exhibition entitled, Testimony, opening tonight at 6 PM until August 30th. David Boykin, Krista Franklin, and Andres L. Hernandez are the three artists featured in the show. The Logan Center is located 915 E 60th Street and is open Monday-Sunday.

CHIRP Radio's The First Time @ Martyrs

CHIRP Radio's quarterly Live Lit and Music series, The First Time, is back at Martyrs', 3855 N. Lincoln Ave., with the theme First Impression. The First Time performances feature seven story tellers who pair a song with a personal story around a notable "First" (e.g. First Car, First Kiss, First Lesson). Reading tonight: Erica White, JH Palmer of That's All She Wrote, Musician Pamela Maurer, aka Baby Money, Laura Caldwell of Life After Innocence Project, Storytellers Archy Jamjun and Ben Kessell, and CHIRP DJ Kyle Whelliston. Starts at 8pm, $10. 21+
