Janelle Monae @ Taste of Chicago

Janelle Monae performs in the Petrillo Music Shell, 235 S. Columbus Dr., during Taste of Chicago tonight, with Gary Clark Jr. opening. Doors are at 4pm, show's at 5:30pm. Tickets are $25.

Mike Nudelman & Sarah Hicks @ Hyde Park Art Center

The educational establishment and exhibition space Hyde Park Art Center is holding two opening receptions tonight starting at 5pm. Nudelman, working with ballpoint pens, and Hicks, which will be displaying her ceramics pieces, are both exhibiting together at the art center. In addition to this event there is another opening reception, entitled "Figurative vs. Abstract" which will also begin at 5pm. Both events are free and open to the public. The Hyde Park Art Center is located at 5020 S. Cornell Ave., next to Bridgeport Coffee.


Fucked Up @ Bottom Lounge

Canadian punkers Fucked Up headline an all-ages show at Bottom Lounge, 1375 W. Lake St., tonight with Weed and The Funs opening. Tickets are $15. Doors open at 6pm.

Andrew Zimmerman and Fear no ART @ Taste of Chicago

Sepia's Andrew Zimmerman, aided by students of Washburn Culinary Institute, serves a multi-course meal tonight at 6:30pm the Taste of Chicago (Grant Park, 500 S. Columbus Dr.) as part of the Pure Leaf Celebrity du Jour Dining Series, which will take place onsite in an air-conditioned tent (whoo!). If you have to venture into the swarm of turkey legs that is the Taste of Chicago, this event is worth the $45 ticket. Additionally, actor George Wendt and others will be in attendance for a live chat that will be streamed online during the meal as part of the Fear No ART's Dinner Party series.

Story Club @ Holiday Club

The North Side edition of Story Club is back at the Holiday Club, 4000 N. Sheridan Rd., tonight, with the theme of "Ask." Readers include story collector Ray Teresi, Spanglish Memoirs writer/performer Rob Ruiz and author Tori Telfer -- plus three open mic slots for you to share your story. Doors open at 7:30pm, show's at 8pm. $10 donation requested. 21+
