Wizard World's Chicago Comic Con returns to the Donald E. Stephens Convention Center, 5555 N. River Rd. in Rosemont, Aug. 21-24. Meet artists and celebrities; attend panels on your favorite pop culture, TV and film; watch movies; marvel at the cosplayers and check out the comics. The festival is open from 3 to 8pm today. Admission are $40 for today; tickets for autographs, photo ops and VIP experiences are extra. Four-day passes are sold out.
A Jangleheart Circus (mostly) improv comedy festival runs Aug. 21-23 in the Upstairs Gallery of The Den Theater, 1333 N. Milwaukee Ave. Shows run on four stages tonight from 7pm to well after midnight. Doors open at 6pm. Tickets are $25 per night, or $60 for a three-day pass.
Movie night takes a wild twist with Zoovies at Lincoln Park Zoo. The park is open after hours for screenings on the South Lawn. Tonight's feature is one that isn't shy to the world of magic: Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone. Admission is free. Movies start at dusk. Nerdcore rapper MC Frontalot headlines Subterranean, 2011 W. North Ave., tonight, with Dr. Awkward and Corn Mo in support. Tickets are $12 in advance, $15 at the door, which opens at 7pm. 21+
Tech Cocktail founder Frank Gruber celebrates the release of Startup Mixology: Tech Cocktail’s Guide to Building, Growing, and Celebrating Startup Success tonight at 7:30pm at Space coworking, 444 N. Circus and theater converge with Aloft's production, Dinner of Our Discontent at the Chopin Theatre, 1543 W. Division Street. Directed and conceptualized by Aloft artistic director Shayna Swanson, "Dinner" follows five estranged sisters as they return to the home they grew up in after their parents' sudden deaths. Aloft is a Chicago-based physical performance company dedicated to telling original stories through world-class circus arts. Show runs August 14-24, show times: Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays at 8pm, Sundays at 7pm. Tickets are $25 and available at Brown Paper Tickets.
