Between Bites, the reading event that brings together food and writing, is at Frontier, 1072 N. Milwaukee Ave. tonight. Featured readers include Boka Restaurant Group owner Kevin Boehm, restaurateur emeritus Ina Pinkney, Thrillist senior editor Matt Lynch, cocktail and spirits writer Lauren Viera, Chicagoist editor Chuck Sudo, and Between Bites co-founder and Plate magazine managing editor Liz Grossman. Tickets are $30. Doors open at 6:30pn, show's at 7pm.
Essay Fiesta, a monthly literary reading series that benefits 826 CHI, happens this evening at 7:00pm at The Book Cellar (4736-38 North Lincoln Avenue) with readings from David Boyle, Scott Stealey, M. Louder than a Mom, the reading series featuring stories about parenting, returns to Martyrs', 3855 N. Lincoln Ave., tonight at 8pm. Tickets are $8. 21+
Ray Teresi, AKA The Story Collector, is bringing a dozen live lit performers, representing as many shows, for a one night "battle" between readers (performers who read from pages) vs. tellers (performers who tell stories without pages) at Haymarket (737 W. Randolph.) Heading up the Readers team is Write Club Overlord Ian Belknap; captaining the Tellers team is The Moth's Don Hall. The Readers team includes: Josh Zagoren, JH Palmer, Gwynn Fulcher, and Samantha Irby; Tellers include Stephanie Douglass, Andrew Marikis, GPA James Gordon, and Lil Be. Co-hosted by Janna Sobel of Here, Chicago and Chad the Bird of The Paper Machete. Timekeeper duties by the Awkward Intern of Shame That Tune. Doors open at 6pm, show starts at 8pm.
