John Hodgman @ UP Comedy Club

John Hodgman does two completely different shows tonight at UP Comedy Club, 230 W. North Ave. At 7pm (6:15 doors) he performs "I Stole Your Dad," his usual melange of expert advice and pop culture reference, and at 9:30pm (8:45 doors) he performs "VACATIONLAND," reflections on summertime and death. Tickets to each show are $30. 21+

Write Club @ Hideout

The Hideout presents the monthly literary sporting event known as Write Club. Local author Ian Belknap presides over a series of literary bouts featuring the finest Chicago authors and playwrights, each one going to bat for an opposing view (PAPER vs. PLASTIC, WAR vs. PEACE, etc.). The audience chooses the winner of each bout, with the prize being a donation to the winning author's charity. Show starts at 7:00pm, and admission is $10 at the door. Pechakucha @ Martyrs'

Pechakucha returns to Martyrs', 3855 N. Lincoln Ave., tonight. Featured this month are Peter Exley, Meida McNeal, Matthew Silva, Emmanuel Pratt, Carlos Matallana, Jorge Felix, Holly Chernobyl, Nick Fury, Chatherine Schwalbe, Yuri Lane, Jonald Jude Reyes, Sandra Leonard, Noelle Krimm, Leah Gipson and Jaclyn Jacunski. Each will do a presentation consisting of 20 slides, each of which appears for just 20 seconds. Chicago Artists Month Commissioner Michelle Boone and Coordinator Barbara Koenen host, along with Peter Exley. Tickets are $10. Doors open at 7, show's at 7:30pm.

Story Club South Side @ Co-Prosperity Sphere

Story Club's South Side franchise gets invaded by zombies tonight at the Co-Prosperity Sphere, 3219 S. Morgan St. Featured readers are Kelsie Huff, Denise Santomauro and Kenneth Hite, plus a couple open mic slots if you've got a zombie story of your own to tell. Andrew Marikis hosts. Doors (and open mic signup) open at 7:30pm, show's at 8pm. $10 suggested donation. BYOB.
