Gapers Block presents Tuesday Funk, Chicago's eclectic monthly reading series, tonight at 7:30pm in the upstairs bar at Hopleaf, 5148 N. Clark St. This month's edition featuresreadings by Tom Haley, Maggie Jenkins, Melinda McIntire, Keesha Beckford and former co-host William Shunn. Current co-hosts Andrew Huff and Eden Robins will, er, co-host. Doors open at 7pm sharp -- no earlier, unfortunately, but get there as close to 7 as possible to grab a table, as the room fills up quickly. Admission is free, but you must be 21 or older.
Mark Lanegan, former singer for Screaming Trees, headlines the Bottom Lounge, 1375 W. Lake St., tonight with his new band. Redgrave and Lyenn open. Tickets are $25. Doors open at 7pm, show's at 8. 17+
Mick Dumke and Ben Joravsky of the Reader host an election night edition of their First Tuesdays show at the Hideout, 1354 W. Wabansia Ave., tonight from 7 to 8:30pm. Joining them will be guest producer Ken Davis, Ald. Will Burns, State Representative Kelly Cassidy, and journalist Rick Kogan. $5 at the door. 21+
Two Cookie Minimum is back at the Hungry Brain, 2319 W. Belmont Ave., tonight at 9pm for a special "Toast to Hosts" episode, featuring readings by hosts of other reading series. Carly Oishi of Miss Spoken, Robbie Q. Telfer of The Encyclopedia Show, Elizabeth Harper of Elizabeth's Crazy Little Thing, Behnam Riahi of Reading Under the Influence and Leah Pickett of The Marrow will read, and John Wawrzaszek hosts. No cover, 21+
