Steppenwolf's Project Compass presents a special exhibition match of the long-running live lit show Write Club. In tonight's match, Write Club founder Ian Belknap goes up against long-running Write Club fave (and creator of the Drunk J.Crew Tumblr site) Jen Ellison. Tonight's event happens at the Steppenwolf Garage Theatre (1624 N. Halsted), starts at 6:00pm, and is free! Full details at the event's Facebook page.
The Northman, the city's first cider-only bar (soon to be at 4337 N. Lincoln Ave.), hosts a one-night pop-up restaurant at Fountainhead, 1970 W. Montrose Ave., tonight at 7pm. Chef Cleetus Friedman will serve up a four-course meal of English and Spanish leanings (speck, yorkshire pudding, etc.) with drink pairings; tickets are $65 per person.
The Chicago Sinfonietta and Redmoon team up for a Day of the Dead concert tonight (yes, two weeks late) at Symphony Center, 220 S. Michigan Ave., at 7:30pm. Tickets are $10-58.
Tonight at 8pm, Laugh Factory, 3175 N. Broadway, hosts Laugh Your Plants Off, a night of stand-up benefiting Plant Chicago. The show features Nate Burrows, Ricky Gonzalez, Ken Garr, Calvin Evans, Ali Clayton and Martin Morrow. Tickets are $20 in advance, $25 at the door; VIP admission gets you in early for $10 more. Two drink minimum. 18+
