Barley's Angels organizes a Beer Sleigh today, which includes beer flights and transportation to three area breweries as well as the tours at Metropolitan Brewing, Lagunitas Brewery, and Lake Effect Brewing. Tickets are $60. The tour kicks off at 11am at Metropolitan Brewing, 5121 N. Ravenswood Ave.
The Chicago Art Girls host their third annual Holiday Pop-Up Shop today and Sunday from 11am to 5pm at Bell Elementary, 3730 N. Oakley Ave. Shop for fun gifts handmade by more than two dozen local artists and crafters.

BeerFX premiers the short film Barrel Aged and hosts an interactive beer festival today from 3:30 to 7pm at the Logan Square Auditorium, 2529 N. Kedzie Blvd. Tickets are $40 in advance, $45 at the door, and include a commemorative glass, samples of the barrel aged beer "Turn Brown for What" featured in the film as well as beers from more than a dozen local breweries. 21+
A. Laurie Palmer, a sculpture professor at SAIC, is hosting her new book launch, "In the Aura of a Hole: Exploring Sites of Material Extraction," published by Black Dog Publishing. Palmer will speak with Rebecca Zorach, an art history professor at the University of Chicago, today starting at 4 until 6pm at Threewalls Gallery, located at 119 N. Peoria #2C.
Soup & Bread, the weekly benefit soup and nosh event, begins prepping for next year's season (which begins Jan. 7th) with a kickoff fundraiser tonight at the Hideout, 1354 W. Wabansia Ave. For a suggested $20 donation, you'll sample chili from the folks at Smoque, Graze Magazine, Celestial Kitchens, and newly unemployed (?) "Hot" Doug Sohn, as well as bread from Publican Quality Meats and On the Road Catering. DJs, raffles of prizes from Bloodshot Records and a few other joints will be happening, too. Worth it! Runs 5:30-8pm; for an extra $5, stay afterward for the Hideout Holiday Jamboree.
The Gene Siskel Film Center, 164 N. State St., presents two very special screenings of the 1994 Kartemquin film Hoop Dreams, tonight at 7pm and again on Tuesday, Dec. 16 at 6:30pm. At both screenings the filmmakers will be present: Steve James, Peter Gilbert, Gordon Quinn, Adam Singer, and film subject Arthur Agee will participate in a discussion of the film. In 2010, Lampo brought composer and installation artist Tristan Perich to the Graham Foundation's Madlener House for a performance of his "1-Bit Symphony."
