Soup & Bread, the weekly wintertime soup-eating party benefiting a local food-related charity, is tonight at the Hideout, 1354 W. Wabansia Ave. Volunteer cooks make the soup; you show up between 5:30 and 8pm to eat, enjoy and kick in a few bucks for the cause. Kids welcome with parents.
Aimee Mann and Ted Leo joined forces to create The Both back in 2012, and they're hitting Chicago today for the first night of the 2015 Tomorrow Never Knows festival. The band headlines the Athenaeum Theatre, 2936 N. Southport Ave., tonight at 7pm. Tickets are $30.
CHIRP Radio's First Time series returns to Martyrs', 3855 N. Lincoln Ave., tonight at 8pm. The theme this round is "First Chance," and the readers include Freda Love Smith, Lily Be, Tim Akimoff, Stubhy Pandav, Rick Joyce, Ali Clayton, Nicole Oppenheim. As always, the First Time Three will perform a cover song related to each reader's story. Jenn Sodini hosts. Tickets are $10 in advance or at the door. 21+
The Gene Siskel Film Center, 164 N. State St., presents a screening of Compass Cabaret 55, a documentary about the famous Compass Players (forerunners of Second City). New Orleans based new wave duo The Generationals are hitting Lincoln Hall, 2424 North Lincoln Ave, tonight for the first day of the 2015 TNK festival. Show starts at 9:00pm with El El and Young Buffalo opening. Tickets are $15.
