Winter Block Party for Chicago's Hip Hop Arts @ Metro

The 6th annual Vocalo Winter Block Party for Chicago's Hip Hop Arts is today at the Metro, 3730 N. Clark St., beginning at noon. The fun is free and all-ages until 6pm, with a film screening, b-boy/b-girl dance battle, street gear fashion show and a performance by DLOW, plus DJ sets by Shazam Bangles, Pumpin Pete, Shred One and Jesse De La Pena. There will also be a hip hop art gallery and boutique, and much more. Starting at 7pm, there's a ticketed show featuring the b-boy/b-girl dance battle finals, a Louder than a Bomb mixtape release concert with Mick Jenkins, Show You Suck, Saba, NoName and Daryn Alexus. Tickets are $10/$6 for students.

Scrabble for Cheaters @ 826CHI

826CHI hosts Scrabble for Cheaters, a Scrabble tournament in which the teams can get a little extra "help" through sanctioned cheats they purchase with donations to the literacy organization. The tournament starts at noon at 1276 N Milwaukee Ave. It's free to watch, $30 to register to play -- not including donations.

Build Presence: Public Interactive Art Project @ Chicago Cultural Center

The growing movement in support for racial justice and an end to police brutality is the core of "Build Presence". The interactive art project will encompass this social movement and create a space for the public to meditate, cultivate, and embody knowledge. The event will be held at the Chicago Cultural Center, 78 E. Washington, today from noon-5:30 and Sunday February 1st, noon-4:00. Alexandria Eregbu will be opening up her studio on the first floor for this public installation.


Mary Dorrell and Thomas King Exhibition @ Arts on Elston

The Art House is sponsoring a two person exhibition for Mary Dorrell and Thomas King today at Arts on Elston. The Paper Machete @ Green Mill

The Paper Machete live magazine is back at the Green Mill, 4802 N. Broadway, today at 3pm. Guests this week include Adam Burke, Lindsay Harrington and Katie Watson, Alan Neff, Matt Sadler, Vienna Juvenile, and Chad the Bird. Music by the Blue Ribbon Glee Club and the Kickback. Winter Ska Meltdown @ Threadless HQ

Midwest Ska Fest hosts the Winter Ska Meltdown tonight at 7pm at Threadless HQ, 1260 W. Madison St. The lineup features The Crombies, Run and Punch, The Mushmen, Bumsy and the Moochers, and Must Build Jacuzzi. Finch's provides the beer, Dark Matter provides the coffee, you provide the skanking. RSVP required, $10 donation requested at the door.

Anti-Flag @ Reggies

Anti-Flag celebrate the 10th anniversary of their album The Terror State by playing it in its entirety tonight at Reggies, 2105 S. State St. Such Gold, the Homeless Gospel Choir and Still Alive open. Tickets are $18 in advance, $20 at the door, which opens at 7:30pm. All ages.

You're Being Ridiculous @ Davenport's Piano Bar

You're Being Ridiculous is back this month with an all-new cabaret version of their long running story telling show. The show, musically directed by Allison Hendrix, features stories AND SONGS exploring LOVE from Allison Hendrix, Bill Howes, Jeremy Owens and Allison Shoemaker. The show begins at 8:00pm at Davenport's Piano Bar (1383 N. Milwaukee). Tickets must be reserved online and are $18 with a two drink minimum. There is no better way to end your winter blues.

Chicago Psych Fest @ Hideout

The sixth annual Chicago Psych Fest runs Jan. 29-31 at the Hideout, 1354 W. Wabansia Ave. Tonight's lineup features DRMWPN, Unmanned Ship, Dark Fog, Underground Symposium and Matchess, plus DJ sets by Psychedalex and video arts by brownshoesonly. Tickets are $10 per night, $25 for a three-day pass. Doors open at 8pm, show starts at 9pm. 21+

Onion City Film Festival @ Columbia College

This year marks the 25th anniversary of the Onion City Experimental Film and Video Festival. Columbia College will host a plethora of films Jan 29-31 at Ferguson Auditorium, 600 S. Michigan Ave., beginning at 8:30pm. See the festival website for full schedule. Tickets are $8.

Quimby's 2015 Zlumber Party

Quimby's is throwing a slumber party for zine makers. The Zine Slumber Party, or Zlumber Party, starts tonight at 10pm when the store is closed to customers. Attendees are then free to work on their zines overnight, and hopefully have a finished publication by the time you leave in the morning. Quimby's is located at 1854 W.
