Try Youth as Youth @ David Weinberg Photography

David Weinberg's new exhibition, Try Youth as Youth, examines the juvenile justice system in America through the medium of photography, sculpture and video installation. Four artists will have their work featured in the gallery, located at 300 W. Superior St., Suite 203, from Feb. 13 to May 9. The opening reception is tonight from 5 to 8pm; free.

Interactions with Light Opening Reception @ Chicago Art Department

Tonight is the opening reception for Interactions with Light, which will transform the Chicago Art Department gallery space in an interactive piece by Connie Wolfe and Galina Shevchenko. The opening reception begins at 6pm tonight, and the closing reception is Feb. 28 at 6pm. CAD is located at 1932 S. Halsted St, #100.


Typeforce Six @ Co-Prosperity Sphere

The sixth annual Typeforce exhibition of typographic art and design opens tonight at Co-Prosperity Sphere, 3219 S. Morgan St., with a reception from 6 to 11pm. See works by more than 20 artists and designers. Free.

Scott McCloud @ Art Institute

The Chicago Humanities Festival presents author and comics expert Scott McCloud discussing his new graphic novel, The Sculptor, and comics in general with Lynne Thomas tonight at the Art Institute's Rubloff Auditorium, 230 S. Columbus Dr., at 6pm. Cartoonist and filmmaker Lyra Hill opens. Tickets are $10 for CHF and AIC members, $15 for the general public.

COSMOS Cabinet @ Logan Center for the Arts

The Arts, Science and Culture Initiative at the University of Chicago presents a night of far away worlds in the Cosmos Cabinet tonight at 7pm. Scientists and artists will engage and perform in this evenings event in relation to cosmology, scale, and limitlessness. Angela Olinto from U of C will present a conversation, Artemis Willis and Terri Kapsalis will visually display a magic lantern performance, and "Sun Ra" will be featured by David Boykin on tenor and saxophone. The free event will take place in the Performance Penthouse at the Logan Center for the Arts, 915 E 60th St.

For the Love of Pets @ Dolce Casa

For the Love of Pets, a benefit for Friendship Pet Pantry, is tonight from 7 to 10pm at Dolce Case Café, 4947 N. Damen Ave. There will be a silent auction and raffle, as well as passed apps, wine and beer from Begyle Brewing. Tickets are $35 in advance, $40 at the door. Friendship Pet Pantry operates out of the Friendship Center, 2733 W. Lawrence Ave., and is open of the third Thursday of the month from 3 to 5pm.

Issa Rae & Samantha Irby @ Swedish American Museum

Women & Children First presents a reading and discussion featuring Issa Rae, creator of the hit web series "The Misadventures of Awkward Black Girl," will discuss her new memoir of the same title with writer Samantha Irby. The event takes place tonight at 7:30pm at the Swedish American Museum, 5211 N. Clark St. Tickets are $5 with the pre-purchase of Rae's book online, in the store or by calling 773-769-9299.

Michelle L'Amour's Big SEXY Show @ City Winery

Michelle L'Amour's Big SEXY Show runs tonight and Saturday at City Winery, 1200 W. Randolph St. The show features modern burlesque, live music and variety acts. Doors open tonight at 11pm, show's at 11:30pm. General admission tickets are $30; VIP tickets are $60 and include a pre-show cocktail party from 9 to 10pm at the Everleigh Social Club, 939 W.
