The avant-garde filmmaker Ernie Gehr will be in person during the screening of several of his films at the Logan Center for the Arts, 915 E. 60th St., tonight at 7pm. Presented by the Film Studies Center at University of Chicago. Free.
The Opaque Reading Series, showcasing literary performances of the "in-between," hosts its third reading tonight at 7pm at Uncharted Books, 2620 N. Milwaukee Ave. The theme for the night is growth, and featured readers include Daniela Olszewska, Mary Mueller, Emma Alamo, Adam Bangser and Madison Zielinski. There will be a full color zine available at the event for the suggested price of $5.
If you missed Paul Thomas Anderson's Inherent Vice during its recent theatrical run, you have a second chance to catch the film as it begins a weeklong run at The Gene Siskel Film Center tonight at 8:00pm. Two nights of The Growlers are coming to Lincoln Hall, 2424 N. Lincoln Ave. The Growlers' self described beach goth is perfect to warm up this February weekend. Opening for them will be Oklahoma's hazy punk group BRONCHO and DJ Thundercutz. This is an 18+ show and show starts at 9pm each night. Tickets are $18 in advance, $20 at the door. There is also a two night option for $30.
Bump & Grindcore is back at Beauty Bar, 1444 W. Chicago Ave., with "A Night with the Carters," a tribute to Jay-Z and Beyonce.
