Shakespeare Project: Macbeth @ Newberry Library

The Shakespeare Project of Chicago performs a staged reading of Macbeth today at the Newberry Library, 60 W. Walton Ave., from 10am to 12:30pm. Free.

Pulaski Day Pub Crawl

Revolution Brewing presents a Pulaski Day Pub Crawl featuring bars along Pulaski Avenue today. The crawl starts around 10:30am at the brewery tap room, 3340 N. Kedzie Ave., with a beer and some Polish food. From there, a trolley takes you to five bars where there'll be drink specials for crawlers. Tickets are $30. 21+

Winter Block Party @ Empty Bottle

Goose Island Beer Co. & Empty Bottle present Music Frozen Dancing: A Winter Block Party today outside the Bottle at 1035 N. Western Ave., beginning at 1pm. The lineup features Perfect Pussy, Protomartyr, Oozing Wound and NE-HI, and is hosted by the Puterbaugh Sisters. Admission is free, and kids are welcome. There will be Goose Island beer, hot apple cider and Dark Matter coffee available to help keep warm (or too drunk to notice).

A Portrait Gallery @ Living Room

Arts mentorship organization Ag47 presents A Portrait Gallery!, its annual fundraiser, today from 4 to 7pm at the Living Room, 2423 W. North Ave. For a $5-$10 donation, you'll get a one-of-a-kind work of art in the form of a picture, song or choose-your-own-adventure story.

2015 Hashbrown Chili Cook Off @ Spudnik Press Cooperative

The annual Hashbrown Chili Cook-Off is happening today at 6pm at Spudnik Press Cooperative, 1821 W. Hubbard St., Suite 302. Enjoy an evening filled with food, games and celebration. General Admission $10; VIP Package $22; Royalty Package $65.

FIVE Opening Reception @ LVL3

Tonight from 6 to 10pm, LVL3 hosts the group show [Five] in celebration of five years as an artist run space. Ben Sanders, Evan Robarts, Josh Reames, Sabina Ott and Lauren Clay will all be featured in the exhibition. LVL3 is located at 1542 N. Milwaukee Ave, 3rd Floor. Free and open to the public. Refreshments will be served for donations.


For the Love of Chocolate Fundraiser @ Union League Club

The Union League Club (65 W. Jackson) hosts this fundraiser for the French Pastry School. Eat desserts and drink all the drinks, enjoy music and help support scholarship programs for needy students. Tickets $150; event runs 7pm-1am.

Chicago Irish Film Festival Opening Night

The Chicago Irish Film Festival kicks off its 16th annual festival this evening with a screening of the 2014 film Poison Pen, with the filmmakers in attendance. Tonight's screening will be at The Music Box Theatre, 3733 N. Southport Ave. Tickets are $10. The festival runs through March 7; see the festival site for a full schedule and screening locations.

This Is Modern Art Opens @ Steppenwolf for Young Adults

Steppenwolf for Young Adults premieres This Is Modern Art (Based on True Events) about young graffiti artists tonight at Steppenwolf's Downstairs Theatre, 1650 N. Halsted St. Written by playwright Idris Goodwin and "Louder Than a Bomb" founder Kevin Coval, the play provides a glimpse into the lives of young graffiti artists and asks questions about the purpose of art and where it belongs in our society. The play runs through March 14, but there are only six public performances: Fridays and Saturdays at 7:30 pm. Tickets are $20 and can be purchased online or by calling 312-335-1650. Daniel Knox @ Constellation

Singer-songwriter Daniel Knox celebrates the release of his self-titled record with a pair of shows at Constellation, 3111 N. Western Ave., tonight. The 9:30pm show is sold out, but there are still tickets for the 7:30pm show; they're $10.

The Coup @ Reggies

Political hip hop crew The Coup bring their show to Reggies, 2105 S. State St., tonight with Samiam the MC, Stypes and OBY opening. Tickets are $15 in advance, $20 at the door. Doors open at 8pm. 18+

The Growlers @ Lincoln Hall

Two nights of The Growlers are coming to Lincoln Hall, 2424 N. Lincoln Ave. The Growlers' self described beach goth is perfect to warm up this February weekend. Opening for them will be Oklahoma's hazy punk group BRONCHO and DJ Thundercutz. This is an 18+ show and show starts at 9pm each night. Tickets are $18 in advance, $20 at the door. There is also a two night option for $30
