Ultimate Painting (ex-Mazes, ex-Veronica Falls) are a couple of dudes hailing from London, though you might be able to more easily pinpoint their sound to late-60s New York. Their smart, groove-based psych is reminiscent of the Velvets at their most down-tempo and intimate, and they're also a worthy addition to the clutch of groups who can claim a triple-eponymous band/album/track. They are in excellent company. Be sure to show up early to catch West Coast pop-rock auteur Michael Rault and local postpunkers Clearance, who kick things off. Catch it all at the Empty Bottle on Wednesday, March 4. $10, 21+.
Celine Neon celebrates the release of their debut self-titled EP tonight at Subterranean, 2011 W. North Ave. Rapper Chicks (ill-esha, Psalm One, Fluffy, Angel Davanport and more) and DJ Johnny Walker open, and there'll be a Glitter Guts photo booth. Doors are at 8:30pm, show's at 9. Tickets are $8. 21+
