If you want to avoid the crowded streets of Chicago, come celebrate St. Patrick's Day at The Art Institute of Chicago, 111 S. Michigan Ave. See the exhibit titled Ireland: Crossroads of Art and Design with over 300 pieces of art and from Ireland's 18th century. Tickets range from $20 to $14, with discounts available for Chicago residents, students and seniors. Doors open at 10:30am and don't close until 5pm. Children under 12 are free, so bring the whole family.
Columbia College's Story Week Festival of Writers runs March 15-21 at various locations throughout the city. See the schedule for details. All events are free and open to the public.

The Hideout hosts the monthly meeting of Write Club, the literary sporting event that pits local authors & performers against each other in a series of spoken word bouts. The members of the amazing Chicago band Joan of Arc will have a month long residency at the Hideout, 1354 W. Wabansia Ave. Every Tuesday evening in March you will get a chance to see the band and a few guests including some DJs, short films by Todd Mattei, and readings presented by Featherproof Books. This third night of the residency will be feature Joan of Arc with Michael Vallera starting things off. These 21+ shows start at 9pm. Tickets are $10 or you can go to all five for $40.
