Soup & Bread @ the Hideout

Soup & Bread, the weekly wintertime soup-eating party benefiting a local food-related charity, is tonight at the Hideout, 1354 W. Wabansia Ave. Volunteer cooks make the soup; you show up between 5:30 and 8pm to eat, enjoy and kick in a few bucks for the cause. Kids welcome with parents.

Applied Words: A Dose of Mind and Body

The Guild Literary Complex presents Applied Words: A Dose of Mind and Body, a health-connected stories of the body and/or mind, tonight at the International Museum of Surgical Science, 1524 N. Lake Shore Dr. The lineup includes Rey Andújar, Megan Stielstra, Andrew Huff and Samantha Irby. Tickets are $10 (or pay what you can) and include admission to the museum. Doors open at 6:30pm, and the reading starts at 7:30pm.

Miss Spoken @ Gallery Cabaret

Miss Spoken returns to the Gallery Cabaret, 2020 N. Oakley Ave., tonight at 7pm. The theme this month is "booty call," and the readers include Cara Brigandi, Tamara Matthews, Leah Pickett, Kelly Bolton and Meryl Williams. Rosamund Lannin and Jasmine Davila cohost. No cover, 21+
