Sax Preacher in Concert @ the Pullman Branch of CPL

In honor of Black Music Month, the Chicago Public Library is holding several live performances of jazz and gospel music. Sax Preacher in Concert is one of those such concerts, and will feature the legendary saxophonist Sax Preacher who has studied under Jimmy Ellis and performed with the likes of R. Kelley. The concert will begin at 12pm at the Pullman Branch of the Chicago Public Library, located at 11001 S. Indiana and is open to the public.

Chicago Contemporary Circus Festival

TThe Chicago Contemporary Circus Festival kicks off its truly international festival with the Magmanus Show, a couple of guys from Sweden doing street circus in style. They promise some Bollywood juggling, teeterboard stunts, dancing, comedy, interacting with the crowd and even a g-string finale. You can see it all for free at Wrigley Square in Millennium Park today from 1 to 2pm. Pray for good weather! Free.

Mumford and Sons @ Cricket Hill at Montrose Beach

After a brief hiatus, Mumford and Sons are back with their new album Wilder Mind released this past May. The Londoners are gracing Chicago with their presence today at Cricket Hill at Montrose Beach for an outdoor show. Show starts at 6pm. Montrose Beach is located at 4400 North Lake Shore Drive. Tickets for the show are sold out.

Judy Blume @ Chicago Humanities Festival

The Chicago Humanities Festival presents Judy Blume at the Heller Auditorium at Francis W. Parker School, 2233 N. Clark St., tonight at 7pm. Blume will discuss her new book In the Unlikely Event with the Tribune's Heidi Stevens. Tickets are $15, $10 for CHF members, $5 for students. Main floor tickets are sold out, but balcony tickets are still available.

Palabra Pura @ La Bruquena

The Guild Literary Complex's bilingual reading series Palabra Pura returns to La Bruquena Restaurant, 2726 W Division St., tonight at 7:30pm with a reading and conversation on politics, art, and language. Palabra Pura: Does English Matter? features Adam Gottlieb and Angelina Llongueras, and is curated by poet and educator Elizabeth Marino. $5 suggested donation.
