It's not cheap (adult tickets begin at $125) but it's a worthwhile evening of food and drink in the name of the heralded Green City Market. Over 100 local chefs prepare dishes using market produce and other items; you enjoy the summer's best. Event runs 5:30-8:00pm at the actual Market site (1817 N. Clark); VIP ($250) get in an hour earlier. Kids 12 and under are $25.
Say Anything headlines a 17-and-over show at the House of Blues, 329 N. Dearborn St., tonight, with Modern Baseball, Cymbals Eat Guitars and Hard Girls opening. Doors open at 6pm, show's at 7pm. Tickets are $31.45.
West Elm is hosting a launch party for its pop-in shop West Elm Local tonight, which will feature a collection of locally designed goods by artists and groups such as Rebecca Plotnick, Lucius Art, Real. Soaps, Nourishing Notes, and Earth Cadets. You can meet the makers of these products at the party from 6-9pm tonight. West Elm is located at 1000 W. North in Space B.
Enjoy a curated talk by Wilco frontman, Jeff Tweedy, surrounding his artistry over time. The conversation is from the Insight Out series via a partnership between Pitchfork and the Museum of Contemporary Art. Tickets cost $10 each, and can be purchased via the box office at (312) 397-4010.
Artist Mitsu Salmon will be presenting her multidisciplinary solo dance piece Tsuchi tonight at 7pm at High Concept Labs (Studio A), located 2233 S Throop. The piece focuses on Salmon's grandfather's experience growing up in Hawaii as a Japanese-American, and as an American GI in Japan. Elements of Butoh, Nihon Buyo (Japanese folk dance), contemporary, and everyday movement are utilized throughout the work to examine how the earth is rooted to the body, heritage, and place. Tickets are $10.
The Frunchroom reading series returns to O'Rourke's Office, 11064 S. Western Ave., tonight at 7:30pm with readings by Jeff Dana, Shay DeGrandis, Mikki Kendall, Evan F. Moore and Scott Smith. Free, RSVP on Facebook.
