Great Chicago Fiery Foods Festival

The Great Chicago Fiery Foods Festival runs today and Sunday in the Stephen M. Bailey Auditorium, 1340 W. Washington Blvd. Sample dozens of hot and spicy foods, participate in eating contests, enjoy craft beers and more. The festival is open from 10am to 6pm today. General admission is $10, with $75 VIP tickets available that get you access to live music and more in a private hall.

Northalsted Market Days

The 34th annual Northalsted Market Days festival runs from 11am to 10pm today and Sunday on Halsted between Belmont and Addison. Enjoy music on two stages -- including headliners En Vogue at 8pm -- as well as food vendors, craft and art booths and more. $10 suggested donation at the gate.

South Side Mini Maker Faire

The South Side Mini Maker Faire runs from 11am to 5pm today at Ford City Mall, 7601 S. Cicero Ave. Check out projects and demos from more than three dozen organizations. Many of the demos are hands-on and interactive. Free. Register to attend.

Chicago Hot Dog Fest

The Chicago History Museum puts on a three-day lovefest for the hot dog in Lincoln Park (Clark and LaSalle), featuring the stylings of local joints such as Fatso's Last Stand and Chubby Wieners, music, and even lectures about the history of the dog and its local significance (ketchup will be put on blast). Admission free; event runs 11am-9pm today and 11am-8am Sunday.

Retro on Roscoe

Retro on Roscoe runs Aug. 7-9 on Roscoe Street from Damen to Oakley. This being Roscoe Village, there's a kids area with plenty of family-friendly activities, plus music on three stages, food vendors and an antique car show on Saturday and Sunday. The festival runs from noon to 10pm today. $10 suggested donation.

Midwest Ska Fest @ Double Door

Midwest Ska Fest pogos into Double Door, 1551 N. Damen Ave., starting at 1pm. The lineup features Soul Radics, On Your Marx, Evil Empire, Run and Punch, Something To Do, Beat The Smart Kids, Tone Zone Skam, Bumsy and the Moochers, Ska's The Limit, Fairhaven, The Circle City Deacons and The Skashank Redemption. Dark Matter Coffee will also be releasing Pressure Drip, a collaboration coffee with Jump Up! Records. Tickets are just $12 in advance, $17 at the door. 18+

Artflicks Screening @ Hyde Park Art Center

The Hyde Park Art Center is hosting a one night only event where the garage doors will be opened in Gallery 1 and transformed into a movie theater. From 4:30-5:45 "Style Wars" will be shown, from 6-6:45 an artist talk and film discussion will occur and at 7:30-8:55pm, "Cutie and the Boxer" will end the event. The HPAC is located at 5020 S Cornell Ave. The event is free and open to the public. Bring snacks and blankets/chairs!

Claire Arctander Exhibition @ Trunk Show

Tonight from 7-9, Trunk Show will be featuring Claire Arctander in her solo exhibition of "tender" but "both messy and incisive" series of work. The exhibition will be located in a backyard located at 2535 N. Willetts Ct.

Hiroshima, Nagasaki Book Release @ Murasaki Sake Lounge

Robert O'Connor and Magnus Bartlett celebrate the release of their book Hiroshima, Nagasaki tonight at 7pm at Murasaki Sake Lounge, 311 E. Ontario St. Free.
