Great Chicago Fiery Foods Festival

The Great Chicago Fiery Foods Festival runs Saturday and today in the Stephen M. Bailey Auditorium, 1340 W. Washington Blvd. Sample dozens of hot and spicy foods, participate in eating contests, enjoy craft beers and more. The festival is open from 10am to 5pm today. General admission is $10, with $75 VIP tickets available that get you access to live music and more in a private hall.

Northalsted Market Days

The 34th annual Northalsted Market Days festival runs from 11am to 10pm Saturday and today on Halsted between Belmont and Addison. Enjoy music on two stages -- including Aaron Carter, Salt N Peppa and All 4 One -- as well as food vendors, craft and art booths and more. $10 suggested donation at the gate.

Slow & Low: Community Lowrider Festival

Chicago Urban Art Society presents the fifth annual Slow & Low: Community Lowrider Festival today from 11am to 7pm at 600 W. Cermak Rd. Check out lowriders from all over town, plus live music, food and more. Admission is $5.

Chicago Hot Dog Fest

The Chicago History Museum puts on a three-day lovefest for the hot dog in Lincoln Park (Clark and LaSalle), featuring the stylings of local joints such as Fatso's Last Stand and Chubby Wieners, music, and even lectures about the history of the dog and its local significance (ketchup will be put on blast). Admission free; event runs 11am-8pm today.

Retro on Roscoe

Retro on Roscoe runs Aug. 7-9 on Roscoe Street from Damen to Oakley. This being Roscoe Village, there's a kids area with plenty of family-friendly activities, plus music on three stages, food vendors and an antique car show on Saturday and Sunday. The festival runs from noon to 10pm today. $10 suggested donation.

Green Line South 'L' Tour by the Chicago History Museum

Take a tour today at 1pm with the Chicago History Museum on Chicago's oldest L line, the southerly green one that is, which has been running 24/7 since opening in 1892 with the exception of renovations in 1994-1996. The tour will include discussions on the city's southward development, stories from the 1893 World's Fair, and stops in the Bronzeville neighborhood and the IIT campus. The tour will finish in the Loop and will run approximately 3 hours. Meet for the beginning of the tour at the concierge desk in the Palmer House, located at 17 E. Monroe. Tickets are $25 for non-museum members and $20 for members. They include CTA fare, and reservations are required.

Loop 'L' Tour by the Chicago History Museum

Take a tour today at 1pm with the Chicago History Museum on Chicago's most prominent L line. The tour will be led by Greg Borzo, author of The Chicago L, and will include discussions on the stations and buildings along Chicago's central business district, and will include some amazing photo opportunities. Cobain: Montage of Heck @ Music Box

The documentary Cobain: Montage of Heck is screening Aug. 8-13 at the Music Box, 3733 N. Southport Ave. The Chicago Film Critics Association presents a post-film discussion with director Brett Morgan, led by Consequence of Sound critic Dominick Suzanne-Mayer, after today's 2pm screening. Tickets are $10.

Serving the Sentence @ Towbar

Serving the Sentence returns to Towbar, 1500 W. Jarvis Ave., tonight at 7pm. This time around, readers Eric Ruelle, Matt Pavich, Kate McIIvan, Greg Ledger, Will Petty and Kendra Stevens will start their stories with the sentence, "Trust no bitch." Maggie Jenkins hosts. No cover, but donations will be collected for the Gromada Head & Neck Cancer Foundation.

That's All She Wrote @ Great Lakes Tattoo

The live lit series That's All She Wrote is back at Great Lakes Tattoo, 1148 W. Grand Ave. This month's lineup includes Britt Julious, David Barish, Carly Oishi, and Tess Lennon-Dorn. Co-hosted by J.H. Palmer and Angela Benander. Doors open at 7:30, stories begin at 8pm. Free and BYOB.
