The Loop Alliance presents ACTIVATE tonight from 5 to 10pm in Haddock Place Alley, Enter on State Street just north of theWit Hotel. Curated by Missy Perkins, Stuart Hall and Keith Brownlee, ACTIVATE presents Steampunk Journey through Time and Space, featuring fire installations and fire spinners, aerial acrobatics, live body painting, tarot cards, a steampunk-inspired fashion show featuring Iridium Clothing Co., and art by more than two dozen artists. There's an afterparty on the roof of theWit, 201 N. State St., beginning at 10pm. Admission is free; RSVP on Do312 for a free drink ticket.
Local pop group Homer Marrs & the Excellent Adventure will be releasing their new EP, Fun Size, at Double Door. Tickets are $10 for this 21+ show, with the music beginning at 7:30pm. The group will be supported by Big Dammit, Dylan Rice, and Cloudstomper. Double Door is located at 1551 N. Damen Avenue.
Acoustic guitarist Leo Kottke plays Wednesday at tonight at City Winery, 1200 W. Randolph St. Doors open at 6pm, show's at 8pm. Tickets are $30-40.
The Stoop returns to Rosa's Lounge, 3420 W. Armitage Ave., tonight at 7pm. The theme is "Don't Go There or I Had To Go There," and the featured storytellers are Mikey Manker, Roberta Miles and Moran Cerf, plus open mic slots. Lily Be and Clarence Browley host. No cover, 21+
Tonight at 10, comedian Paul Farahvar hosts Singles Only, an evening of (single and available) stand-up comics telling stories and jokes about the dating scene. The show will feature Amy Shanker, Ali Clayton and Martin Morrow -- and audience members will have a chance to share their dating horror stories. There's a singles mixer after the show. Tickets are $17 in advance, $20 at the door, plus two drink minimum. 18+
