The International Exposition of Contemporary and Modern Art returns to Navy Pier, 600 E. Grand Ave., Sept. 18-20. The festival features 140 leading galleries from around the world. The festival is open from 11am to 7pm today. Tickets are $20, or get a three-day pass for $30.
The Art Loop Alliance and ACTIVATE present The Winner's Circle, a fashion event in the Sullivan Center alley, on Monroe Street between State and Wabash, tonight from 5 to 10pm. Curated by Cheryl Pope, over 20 Chicago fashion designers and Artists respond to fashion as a membrane through interactive performances, immersive installations, and live styling. Admission is free; RSVP for a free drink ticket.
Goose Island opens up its brewery at 1800 W. Fulton St. for its annual Urban Block Party today and Saturday. There'll be lots of beer -- including some rarities -- and encased meats by Hot Doug, plus live music on two stages by The Howl, Vamos!, Pelican, Eleventh Dream Day, Calexico and tUnE-yArDs. The festival runs from 5 to 10pm tonight; tickets are $30 and cover both days. 21+
California stoner rock duo Best Coast play an all ages show at the Metro, 3730 N. Clark St., tonight, with Lovely Bad Things opening. Tickets are $21 in advance, $25 day-of. Doors are at 6pm, show's at 7pm.
The Chicago Center for Literature and Photography (CCLaP) launches The View From Here: Stories From Chicago Neighborhoods, their second annual "student all-star" anthology, tonight at StoryStudio, 4043 N. Ravenswood Ave., suite 222. Doors open at 6pm, readings begin at 6:30. Coffee, tea, and light refreshments will be available, and the book will be available for purchase. Readings by contributing writers, including Alecia Dantico, Anna Harnetiaux,Traci Failla, Maria Vorhis, and Esra Tasdelen. This is a free event.
Native Chicagoan Matt Braunger's (NBC's "Up All Night") stand-up comedy show has been moved from The Second City's Up Comedy Club to Schubas (3159 N. Southport Ave) at 7pm. Tickets are $10 to $20.
The Café Cabaret variety show is tonight at Café Ballou, 939 N Western Ave. Roberta Miles leads Cafe Cabaret, which features a rotating cast of characters. This month's show features music by Clara & the Great Goddamn, storytelling by Holly Beaudry and Don Hall, belly dance by Brywn Johnson, commedia dell'art by Noel Williams, and comedy by Aasia LaShay Bullock, Mona Aburmishan and Allen M.
