The Chicago Marathon gums up traffic all over town today, beginning before dawn; the first runners start at 7:20am. The start and finish line will not be accessible to spectators, but see the course map for good locations to cheer. The 27th Mile Post-Race Party at Butler Field in Grant Park opens at 9am; expect to pass through security screening.
The 13th annual Andersonville Arts Weekend runs Oct. 9-11 throughout the neighborhood, showcasing the work of local artists and designers. Today's activities begin at 10am and include art workshops, performances and a self-guided tour of exhibitions at dozens of local businesses and galleries. Free.
Northern Grade pop-up marketplace will be at 1st Ward, 2033 W. North Ave., Saturday and today. Shop for US-made fashion, accessories, design objects and home products. Open from 11am to 5pm today. Admission is free.
Family, friends, one and all are invited to have some fall fun in the park at Northerly Island from 12pm to 3pm! Located at 11521 S. Linn White Dr., Fall Adventure Day will have options to kayak, identifying fossils, play in the mud, find frogs and reptiles, watch bird migration, go on a hike and more! Must be 8 or older to kayak. Free!
The ticket's aren't cheap but they benefit one of the city's (& nation's) biggest issues: hunger. Taste of the Nation, tonight from 6-9pm at the Grand Balltoom at Navy Pier (600 E. Grand) is an annual fundraiser for Feeding America, with a boatload of tastings from the city's best chefs (among them EL Ideas, Acadia, and Honey Butter Fried Chicken), a live auction, entertainment, and chef demos. Tickets for adults start at $125; kids $35.
The monthly live lit series That's All She Wrote turns 3 tonight at Great Lakes Tattoo, 1148 W. Grand Ave. This month's show is part of Chicago Artists Month and includes readings by: Coya Paz, Diane Kastiel, Izzy Libmann, Stephanie Douglass, and a rare reading by AV guy Ray Teresi. Co-hosted by J.H. Palmer and Angela Benander. Doors open at 7:30, stories begin at 8pm. Free, BYOB, and there will be cannolis from D'Amatos Bakery!
