Andersonville Arts Weekend

The 13th annual Andersonville Arts Weekend runs Oct. 9-11 throughout the neighborhood, showcasing the work of local artists and designers. Today's activities begin at 10am and include art workshops, performances and a self-guided tour of exhibitions at dozens of local businesses and galleries. Free.

Northern Grade @ 1st Ward

Northern Grade pop-up marketplace will be at 1st Ward, 2033 W. North Ave., today and Sunday. Shop for US-made fashion, accessories, design objects and home products. Open from 11am to 7pm today. Admission is free. From 7 to 9pm tonight, there's an afterparty featuring Brooklyn Gin cocktails and apps, DJ Larry Miller and exclusive access to additional shopping items. Tickets to that are $30.

Chicago Arts District Open House

The Chicago Arts District hosts its 45th annual Open House Friday night and today. Pick up a map at 1821 S. Halsted St. and go on a self-guided tour of more than 30 artist studios and galleries. The open house runs from 11am to 7pm today. Free.

Handmade Market @ Empty Bottle

The Empty Bottle, 1035 N. Western Ave., hosts Handmade Market, featuring a host of crafters who will be selling their hand-made wares. The show starts at noon, but the Empty Bottle starts serving at 11am, so feel free to come early and get a drink! Admission is free. 21 and over, except for kids accompanied by adults.

Bacon & Beer Classic

The traveling Bacon & Beer Classic comes to Soldier Field, 1410 Museum Campus Dr., for two sessions featuring around two dozen restaurants cooking up bacony treats and more than 40 craft breweries. The "brunch" session runs from 1 to 4pm, and the "evening" session goes 7 to 10pm. Tickets are $49, or spring for the $99 VIP tickets and get into either session an hour early. 21+

The Paper Machete @ Green Mill

The Paper Machete live magazine this week features Brian Babylon, Dominizuelan, Katie McVay, Daniel Sharr and Ike Holder, plus Chad the Bird, burlesque dancing by Sarah O'Dwyer, and musical guests The Wabash Cannonballs. Christopher Piatt hosts. It all goes down at 3pm at the Green Mill, 4802 N. Broadway. Free, 21+

Bank of America Marathon Pasta Dinner @ The Plaza

The Plaza at Millennium Park at 11 N. Michigan Ave. invites runners (and supporters of runners) to carb up at the restaurant for a pasta dinner at varied times throughout the evening (4, 6 or 8pm). A pasta buffet, build-your-own-pasta station, salad dessert, and your choice of a beer or wine are included in the $40 price. Tickets required.

Mucca Pazza @ Metro

Punk marching band Mucca Pazza headline a CHIRP Radio benefit show at the Metro, 3730 N. Clark St., tonight, with Brother Starrace, Jennifer Hall and Spaces of Disappearance opening. Tickets are $21 in advance, $23 at the door. Doors open at 6pm, show's at 6:30. All ages.

"Heavy Cream" Opening @ Rational Park

Tonight from 6 to 10pm, Rational Park, 2557 W. North Ave., hosts an opening reception for Heavy Cream, an exhibition of new work by Julian Baker, Mary Charlene, Zach Hobbs, Marieke McClendon, Shelby Rothenhöfer and Johnny Sampson.

50 States of Gay @ Under the Gun Theater

This show, "50 States of Gay": Let Freedom (Cock)Ring!, will premiere at Under the Gun Theater, 956 W Newport Ave at 7:30pm. Tickets are $15 ($10 for students) and can be purchased by calling (773) 270-3440 or online here.
