The Museum of Science and Industry opens their annual holiday show Christmas Around the World today. Featuring dozens of trees decorated by various local communities, Christmas Around the World also features music and dance performances from many cultures. The event runs through January 3. It's never too early to look for the perfect gift for your loved ones, and if you're not the type to start your shopping on Black Friday, you should definitely head on over to the School of Art Institute of Chicago, 112 S. Michigan Ave., for their annual holiday art sale. For the last 27 years, the school has provided this opportunity for their students to sell and share pieces of their work from their collection, which includes sculptures, photographs, knitwear, jewelry and paintings. Admission for the sale is free. The students' artwork varies in price range, and all proceeds are placed toward the school's education programs. The sale is open from 5 to 8pm tonight as a preview.
CCLaP presents a Chicago Book Expo Preview tonight at City Lit Books, 2523 N. Kedzie Blvd., from 6:30 to 8pm. CCLaP authors Ben Tanzer, Joseph G. Peterson and Jason Fisk will read, as will four of the contributors to the recent The View From Here student anthology. Books by all these authors will be for sale, and the organizers of the Chicago Book Expo will share information about the weekend's event. Admission is free.

Ever see a Wookiee belly dance? Raks Geek brings nerdy belly dance, flow arts and fire show to MCL Chicago, 3110 N. Sheffield Ave., tonight at 7:30pm. Miley Cyrus and Her Dead Petz is kicking off their six-stop tour tonight at 8pm at the Riviera Theatre, 4746 N. Racine Ave. The sold-out show features music from the ex-Disney pop princess's new music project alongside legendary rock band The Flaming Lips. Doors open at 6pm.
Portland's Dandy Warhols have been in the game a long time and their music's gone a lot of different directions. They've had big hits ("Bohemian Like You") and experimented with some not-so-commercial avenues, but they've been consistently catchy through it all. Dandy Warhols headline Thalia Hall, 1807 S. Allport Ave., tonight. The Shivas open. The show's all ages, $25 and starts at 8pm.
Be honest. You've caught yourself belting "I Try" by Macy Gray too many times, and you know that song like the back of your hand. While she's known for other hits and working with a long list of greats like Erykah Badu and Mos Def, the Grammy award winner will be performing tonight at 8 p.m. at City Winery, 1200 Randolph St., alongside Valise, a four-member indie rock quartet from Texas.
