Cycling Round-Up
Lots of stuff has happened this past week in the Chicago cycling scene, some good, some bad.
First off, think about heading over to a site set-up by the family of KC Haywood. KC, a mechanic at Rapid Transit bike shop in Wicker Park, fell four stories from a building over the weekend. He's in a coma, but word is that he's responding to stimuli. While he does have insurance, consider donating a few bucks toward his (likely expensive) medical treatment if you're able with the handy PayPal button.
Next up, the Tour de Fat is Saturday in Palmer Square Park. Here is the schedule of events, which includes a bike parade, music, and a "Slow Ride" competition. Oh, the best part? The whole thing is organized by New Belgium Brewery, so rest assured there will be plenty of adult beverages on hand. Bring cash for beers and to donate to the bike advocacy programs that the TdF is promoting.
Lastly, last Saturday's criterium at Sherman Park, organized by XXX Racing-Athletico, went off swimmingly with only a few crashes, mostly due to operator error. Of course, riders from XXX really filled the podiums in the Cat. 5 Men's race, and 1-2-3-4 Women's, but most of the other Chicago cycling teams put in good showings, too.
