First Things First for Sox, Twins
Neither one was supposed to be anywhere near the top of the division, but here we are looking at a White Sox-Minnesota Twins showdown series that actually is a SHOWDOWN.
Only two-and-a-half games separate the first-place White Sox and the second-place Twins in the AL Central and that could all change during their four-game series which kicks off tonight at U.S. Cellular at 7:11 p.m.
As unpredictable as the mouth of Ozzie Guillen is, for some strange reason he’s always been pretty conciliatory to the Twins, praising their attitude and labeling them “piranhas” for the relentless way they approach games. At times you feel like telling him and Twins manager Ron Gardenhire to get a room.
“I always say a lot of good things about Minnesota and people think I’m crazy,” Guillen told the Sun-Times (and, no, Ozzie, that’s not why people think you’re crazy). “… They’re always going to find a way to get you and we don’t expect to run away with this thing.”
The praise for the Twins comes on the heels of the latest White Sox in-house rumble, this time due to comments Ozzie made regarding the duties of general manager Kenny Williams and the performance of hitting coach Greg Walker. But just as they did following another incident (the whole blow-up doll thing) and another Ozzie outburst, the team has responded, this time sweeping the Kansas City Royals in three games (as well they should).
Can they keep this up against the Twins, who have beaten the White Sox in four of the seven games they’ve played this season? If they want to show the baseball world that whatever turmoil exists in the clubhouse has nothing to do with what goes on once they hit the field, now would be a good time.
