Sherman Park Criterium
The Sherman Park Criterium, organized by xXx Racing-Athletico, is this Saturday, and while it's a bit too late to register for the Cat. 5 men's division, there are still plenty of slots open in the other races. Few bike races are held within the city limits and with gas prices the way they are, it can be awfully nice to race within riding distance of one's home.
The racing goes on all day long, so if you're in the mood to just gawk and gape as cyclists tear around Sherman Park at 30-plus miles per hour, head down at your leisure. If you're interested in being part of the race without donning the lycra, there's a call for volunteers to help with registration, traffic control, and something to do with "Goose Island" (which I assume isn't a call for volunteer beer tasters).
