The Bicycle Film Festival is Coming

Mark your calendars, as the annual touring Bicycle Film Festival is coming through Chicago, from August 6th to the 10th. The annual party is a celebration of all aspect of cycling, from commuters making the lonely trek through the morning fog on their way to work, to racers training for hours in the sometimes-futile pursuit of glory

Just as last year, the BFF is also a chance for Chicago's hundreds, if not thousands, of cyclists to get together, party and revel in their appreciation for the bike. Starting August 6, with a party at Sonotheque, DJ'd by Matt Roan and finishing with a block party at the Cobra Lounge on Fulton, the action just doesn't stop. Skid competitions, a bike parade, bike polo and all manner of other bike-related shenanigans round out the event.

Films to be shown include Road to Roubaix, directed by David Deal and David Cooper, which is a documentary of the legendary and brutal race, Paris-Roubaix, run over the cobbled farmroads of northern France and Belgium. Nicknamed "The Hell of the North" for good reason, Paris-Roubaix is one of the ultimate tests of cycling endurance and threshold for pain. This will be well worth watching if you enjoy seeing athletes competing in one of the hardest bike races to grace the spring classics calendar.

Also showing will be The Six-Day Bicycle Races, directed by Mark Tyson, an examination of American track cycling in the heyday of the sport. A long time ago, track cycling was just as popular, if not more so, than American football and baseball. Sadly, with time, ball sports won out over bike racing for American's hearts. This film is an attempt to document this era, which ended in the 1950's with vintage film footage and photographs, interviews of riders, support staff and families.

As more information about the itinerary comes out, check back for a more up-to-date listing, including locations and times.
